Why porcelain and not ceramic for children's tableware?

The main difference between porcelain and ceramic lies in their material composition and firing temperature. Porcelain is made from kaolin, quartz, and feldspar and is characterized by a high melting point, while ceramic is typically made from clay and fired at lower temperatures. Porcelain has a finer, denser, almost translucent surface, which makes it particularly high-quality and elegant – but also more robust. This density ensures that porcelain is less porous and therefore less prone to stains or odors – ideal for use as children’s tableware.

Why is porcelain better than bamboo, melamine, and other materials?

Most bamboo products contain only a minimal amount of bamboo fibers and are largely made of synthetic resin (melamine, short for melamine-formaldehyde condensation resins). Thus, bamboo tableware is neither more sustainable nor healthier than melamine. Both are prone to hairline cracks and release toxic formaldehyde when heated. That’s why we believe porcelain or ceramic is the only sustainable and healthy choice for children.
