Based on Montessori principles

Safely protected on all sides, our daughter now helped with chopping, sorting, stirring, and making us laugh with her first words – so this is what Maria Montessori meant by "Help me to do it myself." Being together no longer just meant stacking building blocks together, but also being together in everyday situations.

The children also used the wren in other ways: as a bench, for climbing, for building dens, and for hiding. The wren gave them a whole new freedom. The freedom to discover the world independently and to always feel safe and secure.

A piece of furniture for life

Friends who visited us were delighted with the Wren chair. Our parents also insisted on having one for when their grandchildren came to visit. After a long search, I found a small chair manufacturer in the Ore Mountains that now produces the Wren chair with the finest craftsmanship. Made with great attention to detail, using wood from sustainably managed forests. Chairs so sturdy that they will easily be passed down to the next generation or even the one after that.

The materials come from nature and feel wonderful. They help our children to truly understand the world. Over time, they change, acquiring traces of life. Now that my children are a bit older, these traces remind me of all the wonderful moments we've shared – cooking, eating, crafting, reading, building forts.

Design for children & parents

When I think back to choosing the phrase "No matter what you're planning, it's more beautiful together" for my fledgling label, I'm still delighted. Because, then as now, that's exactly how I feel: It's not about what we do with our children, but with what attitude. Mindful, on equal footing, connected, and always open to adventures big and small.

Today I am proud to have created ZAUNKÖNIG®, a label that stands for design, function, and sustainability. For truly good products – timelessly beautiful, long-lasting companions for our lives.
